Amid the hype surrounding the iPhone 5, Apple didn’t forget about its original innovation : the humble iPod. Tim Cook unveiled a range of improvements to both the iPod Touch and iPod nano.
A major change is the addition of Siri to the new iPod Touch, as well as AirPlay. The Washington Post’s Hayley Tsukayama reports that the new Touch is focused on gaming: “a market that Apple has been steadily siphoning from handheld video game makers Nintendo and Sony.”
The slimmer Touch upgrades to the more-powerful A5 processor, a 4-inch, 1136 x 640 pixel display that matches the iPhone, the latest version of iOS and a 5-megapixel camera. Wired says the changes give the iPod its own personality, independent of the iPhone. In addition, better camera software and iOS 6’s Panorama feature greatly improve the Touch’s photo-capturing ability.
The new nano is “definitely not the same as the old nano,” reports TechCrunch. At a wispy 5.4 mm, it’s the thinnest iPod with the biggest display and more media features.
